The Technical University of Liberec (TUL) is a public university founded in 1953 as the University of Mechanical Engineering, noting its contribution to the industry of North Bohemia, especially mechanical engineering and textiles. In 1995, it was transformed into a university and today it unites seven faculties (both technical and humanities) and the specialized Institute for Nanomaterials, Advanced Technologies and Innovation (CXI).

TUL offers study programs at bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels, in Czech and English-taught fields - especially in the areas of textile, mechanical, mechatronics, economics, humanities and health. It is significantly profiled by its research activities in the application of materials, nanotechnologies and machine systems, implements over 100 grant projects for approximately 3 million USD and closely cooperates with industry - especially with glass, textile and automotive production. The university supports international exchange programs (e.g. double-degree studies with the University of Huddersfield or Neisse University). Thanks to its size (approximately 7-9,000 students) and direct connection with the Liberec region, it plays a key role in the economic and scientific development of the region and the whole of Central Europe.
